What is Circle of Security Parenting and can you help me implement it's principles?

Yes absolutely! As Circle of Security Parenting Facilitators, we deliver this program to empower parents and caregivers to meet the emotional needs of their children, and to nurture healthier attachments with their children for positive child development.

Circle of Security Parenting (COS-P) is an evidence-based approach designed for parents and caregivers to better understand and address the emotional needs of their children. The program is centred on attachment theory and focuses on fostering secure attachment bonds for positive outcomes, emotional regulation and overall wellbeing.

Key focus areas include providing a secure, safe and supportive base from which children can safely explore and return (the Circle). Providing a safe haven for children, being emotionally available and responsive to help children regulate their emotions when they are upset. Breaking unhelpful patterns to promote constructive responses to challenging behaviours and develop self-awareness to deeply understand their children's emotions and behaviours.

Can grandparents or caregivers access your services?

Yes, absolutely! Each family is unique and we appreciate the diverse levels of engagement of extended family members, including grandparents and other caregivers, in the journey of raising a child and supporting their loved ones.

If you want to uplift the spirits of the new parents in your life, you may wish to purchase them a gift voucher to offer support.

Do you offer support for parents facing unique challenges or circumstances?

Yes, we understand that every parenting journey is unique. Our services are designed to be inclusive and adaptable to different family situations, including those with special needs or unique circumstances.

Should you require support that falls beyond our scope of practice or expertise, we will gladly provide referrals to the relevant services and resources.

Can I claim from Medicare or my Private Medical Fund for your services?

We operate as a private service, and therefore, Medicare or Health Fund benefits are not applicable.

Check with your Private Health Fund for any services that might be claimable.

What age children do you work with?

Often clients contact us prior to the baby's birth, so that we can start to build a relationship with them and provide them with support. Please let us know if you would like to meet prior to your baby being born.

We work with parents of children aged 0-3 years of age.

You talk about 'good enough' parenting. What do you mean by this?

We understand that parenting is often complex and challenging and that no parent is perfect.

Parenting based on the "good enough" model, proposed by Donald Winnicott, emphasises that parents do not need to be perfect.

Instead, it encourages realistic expectations, responsiveness to a child's needs, setting boundaries, and learning from parenting mistakes. This approach values flexibility, unconditional love, and the creation of a nurturing environment for healthy child development. It alleviates the pressure of striving for perfection in parenting, focusing on the importance of a loving and supportive parent-child relationship.
